Conducting facilitated workshops

empowering the user to develop quality systems faster

Lengthy development projects are not tenable in the current, fast-changing competitive environment. This article outlines a new method of defining system requirements through a facilitated workshop or Joint Application Development (JAD) session. Facilitated workshops that include both end users and systems personnel offer such advantages as enhanced communications, early collection of requirements, user involvement, and project ownership. It is recommended that participants in these workshops include both the project sponsor and project manager as well as with experts in documentation, business, process, and data. Such workshops, when run effectively, can reduce system development time and increase systems' quality.
