Focus on specifics

SIGs, or Special Interest Groups, are a growing phenomenon within the PMI membership. More than one-third of PMI members are affiliated with at least one of the 15 chartered or four potential SIGs. This article highlights some of the activities of these groups which benefit their members with higher-level training and technical networking opportunities. At least five of the SIGs are developing PMBOK® Guide supplements or extensions, which will flesh out specific industry guidelines set forth in the PMBOK® Guide. In addition to networking and educational benefits, SIGs are destined to play a significant role in developing future leaders of PMI.
