The use of performance reviews seems to stretch back eons. But as the pace of business accelerates, more organizations are finding that the annual review is stale—and they’re embracing change initiatives to rethink employee evaluation.

89% of organizations used large-scale, formal surveys to assess performance in 2015. By 2019, that’s expected to shrink to 74 percent.

In 2015, just 30 percent of organizations used engagement data from non-traditional sources—such as social analytics, pulse surveys and employee sentiment analytics. In 2019, that’s expected to jump to 59 percent.


By 2020, 1 in 5 organizations will include employee engagement improvement as a shared performance objective for HR and IT departments.
