Innovation on the construction project
a process view
Successfully managing contemporary engineering and construction projects requires that project managers effectively handle the demands involved in building technologically innovative structures. Failing to identify and manage the many obstacles--limited resources, short-term focus, liability concerns-will cause effort an innovative project to fail. This article examines a process of delivering technologically innovative construction projects, a process informed by innovation research and an exploratory investigation of the mechanisms used in innovation construction, some of which include advanced techniques in foundation construction, innovative concrete formwork, and new technologies for constructing marine pipelines. It reviews the previous investigations of innovation and outlines a process view of innovation on construction projects.
