A three-ring circus

Working in complex organizations with a number of sponsors often seems like a circus. After all, a project professional must perform in three rings: with sponsors, the team and the organization as a whole. This article describes the author's experience in negotiating to gain decision-making responsibility for a key team member on requirements, specifications and deliverables. It also discusses how decision-making control is essential to achieve an outstanding performance in the project circus world. In doing so, it identifies eight characteristics of a strong decision-maker. It then explains interactions with stakeholders and how project meetings are handled.
