New perspectives on project management and the applications deployment environment

Beginning in 1991–92 there was a growing realization that downsizing from mainframe to client/server (C/S) development and production platforms could potentially reduce operating costs. As a result, CIOs have turned to transforming the platform mix underpinning their application portfolios. IS now finds it needs more flexible, scalable application development environments (ADEs) that support development for mainframe, cooperative, and especially, C/S deployment. This requirement has had a significant impact on the role of the project manager and the tools the project manager uses.
