Aplicación de la gerencia de proyectos para optimizar la ejecución de proyectos de minería

Using project management to improve performance on mining projects

Chile’s abundant copper resources have given rise to a bustling mining industry: Over the past decade, international mining companies working with Chile have annually invested--on average--US$1.7 billion. This paper examines how the companies working in Chile’s copper mining industry are practicing project management to successfully realize their projects. In doing so, it summarizes several of these projects and analyzes the project management processes these companies are using, comparing these practices to those outlined in PMI’s PMBOK® Guide. It then suggests how these companies could use the PMBOK® Guide to identify key success factors, gather lessons learned, and deliver projects that meet stakeholder requirements.
