Finding effective solutions for complex challenges is a key trait of successful project managers. This article discusses how project managers from the Vietnam Data Communication Company (VDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) collaborated, while working on a project sponsored by technology innovator Intel, to provide a remote village in Vietnam with Internet access, a seemingly impossible effort that required using wireless WiMAX technology to span the village's surrounding mountainous terrain. It explains the project team's reasons for selecting WiMAX and the challenges they faced--and resolved--in realizing this project.
