The Social Good Impact of Professionals in Project Management

We're dedicated to making a positive impact on thousands of individuals through acts of social good to unite and strengthen our global volunteer community.

Volunteerism is at the heart of what we do. We’ve seen the power of what we can accomplish when our community comes together through initiatives like our Global Celebration of Service during which we exceeded our 2019 goal of 50,000 hours with a total of 151,874 hours pledged to support our communities by offering no-cost project management expertise.

Project management professionals are uniquely positioned to help address problems, resolve issues and meet needs around the globe. By applying and inspiring leadership, vision, motivation and problem-solving, project managers help others reach their goals. And we at PMI know that project managers are making an impact every day by dedicating their skills, expertise and time to help their communities and advance social causes.

So, we ask you to share how you are making an impact on your social media with the hashtag #PMImpact! By sharing your stories of PMImpact, you will inspire countless others within our project management community to use their skills for good.

Helping others makes us happier -- but it matters how we do it

Research shows that helping others makes us happier. But in her groundbreaking work on generosity and joy, social psychologist Elizabeth Dunn found that there's a catch: it matters how we help. Learn how we can make a greater impact -- and boost our own happiness along the way -- if we make one key shift in how we help others. "Let's stop thinking about giving as just this moral obligation and start thinking of it as a source of pleasure," Dunn says.
