A Letter From the PMIEF Board of Directors: Thank You PMIEF

2020 has been quite a year—not just for PMI and the PMI Educational Foundation, but across the world. We’ve not only had to learn how to pivot within our communities, but within our day-to-day lives on multiple levels. However, during this transitional year, our community has learned that socially distant doesn’t have to mean disconnected.

Thanks to you—our donors, volunteers and champions—PMIEF has been able to adapt and strive for progress during this uncertain time and move toward our goal of inspiring youth to leverage Project Management for Social Good®.

Below are a few milestones we’ll remember from 2020.

Expansion of PMIEF’s Partnerships
The expansion of PMIEF’s partnership program in 2020 has been thrilling. Since partnering with F1 in Schools™, Junior Achievement Africa and Special Olympics International in 2019 to further reach youth and help them learn about project management, our team has now welcomed Children International, DiscoverE and Junior Achievement Europe as partners.

PMIEF’s partnerships will integrate project management into the project-oriented youth programs they deliver so young people learn and practically apply this knowledge. As a result, more than 2 million youth on six continents will build their project management competence and strengthen life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.

Celebrating PMIEF’s 30th Anniversary with Our Community
The entire PMIEF team was overjoyed by the messages of congratulations and thanks in honor of the Foundation’s 30th anniversary. Our virtual celebration on 4 August helped us feel a little closer to the global community, while the world felt further apart.

Our impact over the last 30 years is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. Below are just a few examples of how PMIEF has grown and made a difference in the lives of youth over the last three decades.

  • Introduced over 800,000 youth to project management around the world;
  • Helped build the project management pipeline by providing over US$4 million in scholarships and awards since 1990 to those pursuing project management in their studies and careers
  • Awarded over US$10 million in grants.

Connecting with the PMI/PMIEF Community
This year, more than ever, we found that a little social good can go a long way. The PMI community transformed their social good efforts in order to support a more digital community during a time of need. Whether it was through virtual volunteering, supporting a local youth-serving nonprofit, or giving a gift to the PMI Educational Foundation, we were moved by your efforts of global volunteerism this year. The dedication to your community and passion for empowering today’s youth is what has kept us going for the last 30 years. And with your continued support, it’s what will help us grow! Everyone at PMI and PMIEF is excited for the future, as we lean on our core values and continue our laser-focused direction to reach youth around the globe in a much more expansive way of Powering The Project Economy™.

Thank you for serving as one of PMIEF’s pillars. We couldn’t make an impact without you, our PMIEF community.

We look forward to sharing and connecting with you for many years to come. This article was previously posted in the December 2020 issue of PMI Today.
