On 18 June 2020, we launched a new and redesigned application for all current certifications (PMP, CAPM, PgMP, PfMP, PMI-ACP, PMI-PBA, PMI-RMP, and PMI-SP).
We asked for feedback, and we listened. We simplified the fields and decreased the number of screens on the application to improve the experience and make it easier for the certification candidates to provide the required information. For example, we did not change eligibility requirements (years of work experience, hours of training required), but we did change the format in which applicants submit this information to streamline the experience.

When will the new certification applications be live?
The new certification applications went live on 18 June 2020.
Why are you doing this?
We asked our applicants for feedback, and we listened. Our certification application is to be more straightforward. We simplified the fields and decreased the number of screens on the application to improve the customer experience and make it easier for certification candidates to provide the required information.
What certifications does this apply to?
This impacts all eight PMI certifications (CAPM, PMI-ACP, PMI-PBA, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, PMP, PgMP, and PfMP).
Does this change mean you will be asking me for additional or new information?
We are not changing eligibility requirements, including years of work experience or hours of training required, but we did change the format in which applicants submit this information to streamline the experience.
For example, for the overall experience, we now ask candidates to enter months of experience rather than hours of experience, which is much easier to track.
Candidates are still expected to have several years of full-time or near full-time experience in a project management role. Experience leading and directing projects includes skills and expertise aligned with PMI’s professional development framework, the PMI Talent Triangle®.
What if I was mid-application?
If you were unable to submit your application before the change, our team has transferred over as much of your application data as possible into the new format. You will need to review the information to make sure it is correct and complete any new fields that didn’t exist in the old version of the application. For example, the new application may have a drop down-field where there was once a free text field.
Will you be providing an application instruction manual?
In addition to a video demo, we have a quick reference guide available in English that addresses some of the key terms and sections in more detail. If you have additional questions, please reach out to Customer Care for support.
Does the new application require the same level of detail when submitting project descriptions?
We expect applicants to provide at least a 200-word description that summarizes and includes the project objectives and outcome plus the person’s role, responsibilities and objective within the project.
What happens after applications are submitted?
Upon submission, the application is either approved, declined or placed in audit – just like in the past.
My information was not transferred over into the new application. What now?
