Chapter Leader Orientation

Welcome New Chapter Leaders

Welcome and thank you for volunteering to lead your chapter! We’re grateful for your commitment and hope this fulfilling experience empowers you to cultivate professional skills and foster a strong sense of community in your chapter.

To prepare you for this exciting new role, we’ve designed Chapter Leader Orientation (CLO) that includes the following:

Live Virtual Orientation Sessions
A member of your chapter engagement team will schedule 1 or 2 orientation webinars based on your region or chapter election cycle.

During these webinars, you’ll explore chapter leadership through:

  1. A Global overview of PMI and your role as chapter leader, delivered live by your chapter engagement team member regionally.
  2. A Regional overview that includes an introduction to your regional team and the goals and objectives important in your region, delivered live by your chapter engagement team member regionally.

Please reach out to your chapter engagement team member for details about when your orientation webinars will be available to you.

eLearning Courses
To equip you for successful leadership and to enhance your learning, we offer self-paced, interactive eLearning courses as part of your orientation—available through the Course Library on your MyPMI.org page.

Assigned courses:

  • CLO courses are assigned to chapter leaders based on their role as indicated in the Chapter System (CS).
  • All chapter leaders are assigned general-knowledges courses.
  • CLO courses can be assigned to any chapter volunteer. They do not need to be in CS nor in a formal leadership role.

ACTION Required: Complete Assigned CLO Courses

Onboarding vs Current Status in VEP

Completing assigned CLO courses is a required part of onboarding for all Chapter Leaders. Only after you complete onboarding will your chapter volunteer role be officially recognized by PMI and your chapter will be eligible to receive funding from the Leadership Institute Travel Grant Program (LI TG).

Chapter leader onboarding is tracked in the Chapter Systems (CS) and includes two steps:

  • Completion of all assigned CLO courses.
  • Signed forms delivered through Docusign.

Upon completion of these two steps, your status in CS will change from Onboarding to Current.

CLO courses need to be completed only once.

If your chapter leader role changes, you may be assigned a new course, and your status will revert to onboarding until you complete the new course.

Why it matters

Volunteers in Current status will be officially recognized by PMI.

To be eligible for the Chapter Support Reimbursement Program, all of a chapter’s officers in CS must be Current.

Read more about the CLO requirement here.

*Note: PMI assigns courses automatically based on your role and the start date of your term. If you are starting a role and do not see courses in your library, please contact [email protected] and copy your Chapter President and PMI team member.
