Why are we pledging hours in support of the SDGs?
PMI aims to lead with purpose by our dedication to making a difference around the world and to advocate for People, Planet, and Purpose. This year we’re calling upon our community of changemakers to pull together in service and contribute our collective skills in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to make an impact on the world around us. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), we are committed to supporting the UNGC and their mission to advocate for universal principles like human rights, labor, environment, education and anti-corruption. Why did PMI choose the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals?
The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all individuals worldwide. They address the challenges we face as a global community. These goals are scalable and applicable to all project leaders around the world allowing everyone equal opportunity to make an impact through service projects.
What are the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals?
- No Poverty - Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality.
- Zero Hunger - The food and agriculture sector offers key solutions for development, and is central for hunger and poverty eradication.
- Good Health and Well-Being - Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages is essential to sustainable development.
- Quality Education - Obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives and sustainable development.
- Gender Equality - Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
- Clean Water and Sanitation - Clean, accessible water for all is an essential part of the world we want to live in.
- Affordable and Clean Energy - Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity.
- Decent Work and Economic Growth - Sustainable economic growth will require societies to create the conditions that allow people to have quality jobs.
- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure - Investments in infrastructure are crucial to achieving sustainable development.

What is PMI’s goal?

Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants on a project?
There are no minimum or maximum number of participants on a project.
Submitting a Pledge
Can I submit as an individual or on behalf of a company or organization?
Pledges can be submitted on behalf of an individual, a group of individuals, a PMI chapter, a company or organization, PMI Volunteer or PMI Staff.
Can I submit on behalf of more than one PMI chapter?
One individual has the ability to submit multiple pledges on behalf of multiple chapters.
Can I submit more than one pledge?
One individual has the ability to submit multiple pledges on behalf of multiple groups or organizations.
Why am I being asked for an image or video?
We want to see how excited you are about your project! Take advantage of the opportunity to share your enthusiasm, planning process, team members, etc. with us through images or videos. Your images or videos could be an inspiration to others to get involved.
Can I submit a pledge without an image or video and then submit one later?
Yes! If you don’t have an image or video ready and would still like to make your pledge, complete all required fields of the form and click submit. In order to submit an image or video at a later time, please contact [email protected].
How will my image or video be used?
After review, your image or video may be posted on PMI’s social media channels. Publication by PMI is not guaranteed.
How will I know my pledge has been received?
Upon completing required fields of the pledge form, you will be directed to a confirmation that your pledge has been received.
How can I modify my pledge once it is completed?
Pledges cannot be modified via the pledge form once they are submitted. If you would like to modify your pledge, please contact [email protected].
Can I share my pledge on my own social networks or chapter website?
Yes! Feel free to share your pledge images and videos on your social media networks and websites using #PMImpact where applicable.
How can I update my personal information (name, chapter, etc.)?
Please contact PMI Customer Care for instructions on how to modify your PMI account.
What do I do if I feel that my projects meets more than one of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals?
Some projects may meet more than one of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Please select the primary Sustainable Development Goal for your project.
What do I do if I don’t know how many volunteers will be participating at the time of my pledge submission?
Based on your project plan and what you anticipate it will take to complete it, please estimate the number of volunteers that will be involved.
Can projects extend beyond 2023?
Absolutely! We encourage multi-year projects that will continue to impact the global community over time, along with short-term projects that will provide near-instant impact.
I have a multi-year project, how do I calculate my hours?
We encourage multi-year projects! For this form, please submit hours that have been delivered or start delivering in 2023.
What type of image files are accepted?
Supported image files include JPG, PNG and BMP. File size is limited to 7MB.
Why is social media information being requested?
Upon review and approval of your pledge content, PMI may share your image on their social media channels. We want to be sure you are recognized for your commitment to making a difference in the world by properly tagging your social media accounts where appropriate.
What if I am already involved in a social good project?
Your ongoing project absolutely counts! Identify which of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals best aligns with your project and enter hours projected for 2023 when completing the pledge form.
Can I add additional hours to my pledge?
Pledges cannot be modified via the pledge form once they are submitted. If you would like to add hours to your pledge, please contact [email protected].
