GAC Site Team Members

Description

The GAC site team volunteer serves as needed and may serve one to two times per year. In alignment with PMI Bylaws Article II, Purposes and Limitations of the Institute, Section B., 2. I., the purpose of the GAC, through accreditation of academic programs, is to identify, develop, and maintain accreditation standards and principles to advance excellence in project management education worldwide. The GAC’s primary objective in the accreditation process is to ensure that educational programs awarded GAC accreditation adequately prepare students to meet the current and anticipated needs of businesses and government organizations for qualified professionals working in the field of project, program, and portfolio management. Team member cannot be involved in an accreditation process that is currently in deferred, denied or suspended status. The GAC, governed solely by its charter, is PMI’s sole policy-making body in all decisions related to accreditation of academic degree programs in project, program, and portfolio management or related professions in accordance with industry standards.

 

Requirements for GAC Site Team Volunteers:

All candidates are initially screened on the following minimum criteria:
  • Has no conflict of interest (all PMI members and volunteers are bound to Rule of the Board 12.1, Board Member’s Code of Conduct and the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct)
  • Follows all confidentiality requirements
  • Meets any requirements for education, certification, professional and volunteer experience and other qualifications as specified.

GAC Desired Criteria:

  • The GAC desires applicants with diverse geographic, gender, age, and professional/community background that contributes to a diverse team.

Duties

The dates for the onsite/virtual visit are agreed upon by GAC and the program. GAC onsite/virtual visit teams are normally comprised of one team lead, and one or two additional team members. At minimum, one member of the team will be from the project management academic community, and one will be a project management practitioner.

Prior to the onsite/virtual visit, the onsite visit team reviews the Self-Assessment Report and supporting documentation. The team leader will work with the program to finalize arrangements, clarify information, and address questions resulting from the team’s review of the Self-Assessment Report.

During the onsite/virtual visit, team members verify and explore the information represented in the Self-Assessment Report. This is done through: 

  • Interviews with institutional leaders, program representatives, administrative personnel, faculty members, students, alumni, and advisory board members.
  • Review of institutional and program policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Review of the program’s curriculum and examples of student work.
  • Examination of physical, financial, and/or digital resources supporting the program.
  • Present the findings in the visit report
  • Participate with site team members in one or two site visits per year.

Prerequisites

Potential Site Team Members will have at least one of the following:

  • Higher education academic experience in project management
  • Higher education course development experience in project management
  • Academic accreditation experience with another accrediting body such as serving on a site team or participating in academic accreditation processes at a higher education institution.
  • Preference is also given to those with project management experience within any industry or maintaining a PMP or another project management credential.

Desired skill sets

Candidates that meet the initial screening requirements will be evaluated on the following criteria: 

  • Has a clear understanding of PMI, its mission, vision, values, and strategic plan
  • Has direct experience and skills that will be beneficial to the work
  • Able to set a vision, to identify the action steps, and to motivate others to maintain their commitment to the deliverables
  • Possess strategic thinking skills
  • Able to create and foster an environment for shared understanding of multiple viewpoints and healthy debate
  • Possess a basic knowledge and general understanding of different communication styles
  • Demonstrate active listening skills (i.e., be able to concentrate on a person’s spoken thoughts and restate them through paraphrasing) 
  • Converse and read English
  • Technology skills
