What’s New

Compliance Corner – Instructor Badges

The ATP instructor badge is a qualification not a certification. You will not find your ATP instructor badge(s) listed on your PMI account as there is no current requirement for re-certification of these badges. These badges, once issued, are available by logging into Credly at www.credly.com.

As a reminder, ATP Instructors may only advertise their badges to deliver the PMI licensed courseware on behalf of their affiliated ATP(s). Instructors may not deliver PMI licensed courseware on behalf of a non-ATP nor on behalf of themselves as an independent instructor.

Instructor Compliance

Only instructors who hold an ATP Instructor badge may deliver PMI-licensed courseware on behalf of your ATP. Additionally, instructors must qualify separately for each course they deliver. If you have questions about instructor qualifications send an email to [email protected] for further support.

ATP Compliance Corner: Reminders

Instructors delivering PMI-licensed content must be affiliated with an ATP and complete the train-the-trainer program (for each course they qualify to teach). It is important to note that if you have an instructor teaching on behalf of your ATP, they MUST be added to your instructor roster on your ATP’s Instructor Management Hub.

ATP instructors may only use PMI-licensed content when instructing for an ATP – freelance training is prohibited.

Lastly, to maintain your ATP Instructor badge(s), instructors must keep their PMI certifications up-to-date and in good standing.

Instructor Certification Ongoing Audit

ATP instructors do not need to update their ATP Instructor status annually or otherwise. However, instructors MUST keep their certifications active/in good standing to remain in the ATP Program.

The ATP Trainer team will send notifications to instructors who are out of compliance with their certifications. This means any instructor who is found with a certification in these statuses will receive notifications:

SUSPENDED

  • Instructors will be notified to take immediate action to update their status to active/in good standing, or they will be at risk of being removed from the ATP Program.
  •  The instructor’s ATP Instructor badge will be set to expire but can be reinstated as soon as the PMP certification is back in good standing.

EXPIRED

  • An instructor will be removed from the ATP Program immediately, and the instructor will receive an email notification.
  •  Any ATP affiliated with that instructor will also be notified
  • All access to instructor kits will be removed

It is highly recommended that instructors act now to review their certification status by visiting their myPMI profile and following the instructions to renew/reapply. For questions regarding this process, please email us at [email protected].

Reminder About Instructor Kits

This serves as a reminder that as ATPs, you must purchase instructor kits for each instructor associated with your organization. We have seen instances of ATPs NOT purchasing individual instructor kits, but rather a master kit for all instructors to share. This is against our policy because it has led instructors, who were scheduled to deliver training, to cancel training sessions because they did not have access to their instructor kit. This led to an extremely poor learning experience, which reflects negatively on the ATP and PMI alike.

We created the below checklist so you and your Instructors can make sure you are compliant with our policies.

Partners
  • Is your ATP following the regulations of the Authorized Training Partner contract? See verbatim references from your agreement listed below.
  • Have you ordered EACH instructor their own instructor kit?
Instructors
  • As an instructor, are you using the Instructor kit ordered by your ATP for that ATP training session?
  • If you work for more than one partner, have you received access keys for each instructor kit allocated to each ATP?
  • PMI authorized materials in the Instructor kits may only be used when delivering courses for ATP courses to which you are affiliated.

Please review the following references in the Terms and Conditions that reiterate the need for ATPs to purchase individual instructor kits.

  • General Requirements (Step 1, Criterion 1), Section K
  • Agreement and Signature (Step 4), Paragraph 1
  • Agreement and Signature (Step 4), Paragraph 3
  • Agreement and Signature (Step 4), Checkbox 4

Compliance Corner – Affiliating Instructors

For an instructor to train courses on behalf of your ATP, the instructor must be affiliated with your organization. This is done by adding your instructor to your ATP Provider Dashboard/Instructor Management Hub. For step-by-step instructions, please visit this user guide for support.

  • If the instructor is brand-new then the instructor will need to upload their resume for review by the ATP Trainer team. If the instructor passes the review, they will need to attend/pass the ATP Train the Trainer (TTT) on-demand course to earn the ATP instructor badge (see user guide above for complete instructions).
  • If the instructor already holds the ATP instructor badge, the system will inform you that the instructor already holds the qualification. These instructors DO NOT need to retake the TTT.

FAQ Reminders

Q: I want an already badged ATP instructor to train classes on behalf of my ATP. Do I still need to affiliate them?  A: Yes, you must add them to your ATP Provider Dashboard/Instructor Management Hub. Follow the instructions in the user guide link above to affiliate instructors to train on behalf of your ATP.

Q: I opened an instructor application for a brand-new instructor. How long does it take your team to review the application? A: Please note that once an administrator opens an application, an auto-generated email is sent to the potential instructor. This email asks the instructor to log in and upload their resume. Once the instructor uploads their resume, it typically takes 1-3 business days to review.

Q: I opened an instructor application, but my instructor did not log in to upload their resume. Does the application stay open indefinitely? A: No. If your instructor does not act within 30 days the application will be withdrawn by our system.

Q: If the system withdraws my instructor can I add them again later? A: Yes! If the application shows as withdrawn, simply follow the steps again to “Add Instructor” and start the process over. There is no waiting period for you to re-establish the application.

Important Information

Instructor Badge Update Questions

We congratulate and recognize our instructors with the ATP program! Great work! Many have asked, "How do I renew or update my instructor badge?" The good news, there is no expiration on the instructor badges assigned to each instructor. When the time to renew approaches, instructors and ATPs will be notified.

Remember - keep your certifications up to date! Instructors must also be affiliated with an active ATP. If your certification lapses, your ATP instructor badge may be revoked.

Instructor Updates - Keep Certifications Current

Instructor management is key for the success of the program for the learners and the partner.

  • Remind instructors to keep their certification(s) current. Instructors with lapsed or suspended certification status (certification expires and it is not renewed on time) will have their Instructor Badge suspended.
  • Partners must email [email protected] to remove instructors who no longer work with or for the Authorized Training Partner to remove the instructor from the Instructor list on the survey.

As a point of clarification, these are your certifications as listed on your myPMI account. You DO NOT need to re-certify your instructor badge if you are affiliated with an active ATP your badge does not expire!

Compliance Corner – Course Catalogue Misuse

Be sure to follow the guidelines outlined in the Education Provider Portal Guide for the best learning experience for potential learners.

  • Only list courses as Live, In-Person if the instructor will be physically located in the same space as the learners.
  • Virtual, instructor-led programs are defined as instructors and learners connecting using digital tools (such as teams or zoom).
  • Only one instructor may lead a course. If your instructors co-present, only list the course with the lead instructor.
  • Authorized Training Partners misusing the catalog will be required to correct their entries within 24 hours of the reported observation.

Credly Digital Badge

All attendees must pass the end-of-session assessment to receive the PMI Authorized Training Partner Instructor badge. Please allow up to two (2) weeks for the assessment results to be validated and badge issued.

Check back regularly for changes and updates!
