Empowering Latin American Youth with Junior Achievement Americas

Collaborating for Cultural Relevance

PMI Social Impact Initiative

PMI Educational Foundation

In an effort to instill project management skills in the youth of Latin America, PMI, the PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF), PMI Latin America, and Junior Achievement (JA) Americas formed a strategic partnership in 2022.

The partnership embarked on its mission with a clear objective: to empower the youth of Latin America with the essential project management skills needed to navigate the global marketplace successfully.

JA Americas brought a profound commitment to youth empowerment through their programming, while PMIEF contributed its global expertise in project management education. Together, we created project management training modules that were technically sound and culturally resonant, ensuring the learning experience was both insightful and relatable.

This was achieved through coordinated efforts, including the organization of joint events at Junior Achievement’s Company of the Year (COY) Competition and NAU Fest.

I had no idea what a project was until I had the project management lessons and materials. Throughout the program we always had a status report to control together that each area compiled.

Measuring Impact and Transformation

The organizations’ combined experience and expertise, along with an in-depth understanding of the region and its culture, played a crucial role in the initiative’s impact. This internal collaboration ensured that efforts were not only globally informed but also deeply attuned to local contexts.

By the end of 2022, PMIEF’s initiatives in Latin America had achieved remarkable reach and enablement, with significant contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Project management training programs not only reached tens of thousands of students but also provided pro-bono CAPM certification training, empowering the next generation of professionals.

Building a Legacy

The integration of local cultures into outreach programs was key to success, a lesson that will inform PMIEF’s future partnerships and will be noted as a milestone of growth.

The shared journey with PMIEF, PMI Latin America, and JA Americas stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when organizations unite around shared values and objectives.
