Why IT Operations?

There are several reasons why IT operations is critical to your success: 

1. Your organization runs on software. This is clearly true for organizations offering intangible products and services, such as financial institutions and media organizations, in the marketplace.  But it is also true for organizations offering tangible products, such as physical construction companies and restaurants, because they have human resource, planning, ordering, and many other systems supporting their business processes. When those systems don’t run smoothly the business doesn’t run smoothly.
2. Your IT ecosystem must be managed and governed. It requires effort to build, run, evolve, and monitor your IT ecosystem so that you effectively support the rest of your organization.
3. IT is a key enabler of innovation. Your ability to bring new offerings to your customers, to evolve existing offerings, and to react to changes in your environment are directly impacted by the resiliency, flexibility, and scalability of your IT ecosystem.
4. IT operations is a key part DevOps. As the very name suggests, and as you see in Figure 1, IT operations is an important part of our overall Disciplined DevOps strategy.
