Accelerating your project using facilitated work sessions

When organizations implement projects, they must confront several internal issues that influence project outcome, issues related to speed, complexity, quality, and ownership. When such negative issues emerge, they can effectively resolve these by incorporating project manager-led work sessions into the project life cycle. This paper examines the process of executing these work sessions, summarizing information outlined in the authors' 2005 book Facilitating the Project Lifecycle: Skills & Tools to Accelerate Progress for Project Managers, Facilitators, and Six Sigma Project Teams. In doing so, it describes the relationship between facilitation and projects, defining the purpose of work sessions, detailing its six characteristics, and identifying the five factors of executing good facilitation as well as the tangible and intangible benefits of using these work sessions.
