The project manager's job can be difficult at times. Project managers must develop and foster cooperation from members of the project team, sometimes in less than cooperative circumstances. Cross-functional team performance stems from the interdependencies amongst project teams that are inherent in every project. In an attempt to determine the success and outcomes of cross-functional cooperation among team members, a survey was undertaken. 299 members of project teams were surveyed. The results of this hands-on survey are that cross-functional cooperation leads to a more successful project, some importance must be placed on the psychosocial effects on team members after the project is finished, and four factors were identified that may increase the success of cross-functional cooperation; superordinate goals, physical proximity, team accessibility, and project team rules and procedures.
