Opening the book on the open maturity model

Management quality is a critical element for business success.Of the numerous management methodologies that have been proposed to improve management quality, one of the most prominent is the Capability Maturity Model (CMM), created by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie-Mellon University. This and other closed-model approaches have problems when attempting to deal with different organizations and changing circumstances.The article describes an open, holistic approach called the Open Maturity Model, an approach which enables organizations to utilize common project management principles and tools, while tailoring specific elements to the unique needs of each organization.A ten-step work process is described for project management assessment that enables an organization to significantly improve its project management practices in an ongoing, continuous process.
