Only when professional organizations define field-specific measurable standards of acceptable performance and behavior can the individuals working in that field distinguish themselves from non-professionals. This article examines how the PMI Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential provides the field with a measurable standard of knowledge and experience for the purpose of differentiating project professionals and non-professionals.
