The PMI Standards Committee has been revising the 1987 version of the PMBOK’ Guide since 1991. Parts of it are now being reviewed, and should be released in the summer of 1993. The current status of the PMBOK’ Guide document and the rationale behind the changes are presented in regard to the changing PMBOK’ Guide elements. The objective behind the changes is to make the eight knowledge areas more consistent, address concerns about gaps in coverage, and clean up some of the inconsistencies within the document. The main elements of this update include a rewritten Framework section, changes in key definitions, a thorough description of the eight knowledge areas, and a recognition of the need for application area extensions.
