As project management has evolved, numerous industries have adopted its principles and practices. Despite the discipline's growing application, the field's literature primarily focuses on those industries long associated with project management, industries including construction, engineering, and information technology. This article examines recent articles from leading project management-related publications to identify the non-project-based industries that are increasingly using project management. In doing so, it defines the study's four research questions and describes the authors' process of finding and categorizing articles from leading project management publications. It explains the four periods of project management's evolution and the 15 types of project management models. It also discusses the significance of developing theories to structure the practice of project management, noting the focus of seven leading theories.
