Library of PMI Global Standards

PMI’s library of global standards is grouped into foundational standards, practice standards and frameworks, and standards extensions and practice guides. These categories reflect the expansive nature of project management, and will continue to grow and evolve along with the profession.

Foundational Standards

These standards provide a foundation for project management knowledge and represent the four areas of the profession: project, program, portfolio and the organizational approach to project management. They are the foundation on which practice standards and industry-specific extensions are built.

A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)—Fifth Edition

The PMBOK® Guide—Fifth Edition is the preeminent global standard for project management. It provides project managers with the fundamental practices needed to achieve organizational results and excellence in the practice of project management.

Like previous editions, this standard presents generally recognized good practices and reflects continually evolving knowledge.

Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish translations of the Fifth Edition are completed and available for PMI members to download. Sections of the Arabic translation are available for PMI members.

The Standard for Program Management— Second EditionThe Standard for Program Management—Third Edition

The Standard for Program Management—Third Edition is the resource for helping program managers find the best means of achieving their goals and driving organizational success. With the ability to help assess the variety of factors linking projects under one program and provide the best allotment of resources between those projects, the standard is an invaluable tool for program, project and portfolio managers alike, as well as project stakeholders and senior management.

The Standard for Portfolio Management- Second EditionThe Standard for Portfolio Management—Third Edition

If project and program management are disciplines for doing the work right, portfolio management is the discipline for doing the right work. Portfolio managers oversee a collection of projects or programs and other work that are grouped together to meet strategic business objectives.

Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®)- Third EditionOrganizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®)—Third Edition

Organizations can benefit from achieving organizational project management maturity — when projects aren’t just executed randomly, but are tied to business strategy and support business goals. The Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®) provides the tools organizations need to measure their maturity against a comprehensive set of organizational best practices.
