Spotlights an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the project management profession or its practice through leadership, technical Project Management, and strategic and business management acumen.
Named in honor of Eric Jenett, PMI Fellow, PMI’s third member, and the first Project Management Professional (PMP®)—and a recipient of several lifetime recognitions by PMI—this award represents one of PMI’s highest individual honors.
It recognizes an individual whose sustained contributions have meaningfully advanced the project management profession and its practice, creating lasting impact for practitioners, organizations, and the broader community.
More than a recognition of past achievement, this award celebrates leadership, service, and influence that elevate the profession and help shape its future—reflecting PMI’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and the advancement of project success worldwide.

- The nominee must demonstrate a minimum of 8 years of experience in the project management profession.
- The Lead Nominator for a nominee must be a PMI member in good standing.
- Self-nomination is permitted for candidates with a PMI membership in good standing.
- Individuals who applied for and accepted or served as evaluators for this award within the last two years are not eligible to submit a nomination.
- Any nomination submitted by an active or recent evaluator will be automatically declined, as this creates a conflict of interest.
- To maintain the integrity of the evaluation process, attempts to bypass this requirement will be addressed in accordance with PMI’s professional conduct standards.
- Individuals who have failed to comply with PMI policies and procedures, including PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Participation & Conflict of Interest
- Current PMI team members, PMI contractors, and/or PMI consultants are not eligible to apply or nominate for this award.
- Current PMI Board members and members of PMI Board Reporting Committees are not eligible to apply or nominate for this award.
Criteria
The Eric Jenett “Person of the Year” Award requires candidates to demonstrate the following four criteria.

Community Benefits
The nominee's work must demonstrate significant benefits to the broader project management community.
Leadership & Initiative
The nominee must exhibit outstanding leadership and initiative in their contributions to the profession.
Organizational Impact
The nominee's contributions should have a measurable impact within their organization, industry or community, as evidenced by specific benchmarks or changes.
Embodiment of PMI Values
The nominee actively embodies PMI’s culture values (Make It Easy, Together We Can, Embrace Curiosity, Be Welcoming, Aim Higher) in their work and inspires these values in others, fostering a positive and collaborative professional environment.
