As Vice President of Software Products at Project Management Institute (PMI) Karthik Iyappan Gunasekaran drives the evolution of PMI’s software products and GenAI offerings to help project professionals and organizations deliver successful projects. Karthik’s team oversees a breadth of responsibilities including software product design, research, and user experience at PMI.
Before joining PMI, Karthik was a VP of Products at several impactful technology organizations in education like Udemy Inc., Kaplan Inc., and ACT Inc. He was one of the product executives who took Udemy, the world’s largest professional education SaaS platform, public on the NASDAQ in 2021. Additionally, he helped to build a new 3D VR/AR platform for medical education for medical schools at Kaplan. At both Udemy and Kaplan, Karthik led and successfully executed several digital transformations and GenAI initiatives. His work has taken him around the world, building and leading product and engineering teams in the USA, Japan, India, Turkey, and Ireland. Karthik started his career at Honeywell and he eventually went on to found a mobile-first education company.
Karthik holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani - Dubai, a Master of Science in New Technology Applications in Education from The Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Iowa - Tippie College of Business.
In his free time, Karthik enjoys playing both Indian (Carnatic) and Western classical on the violin and piano and resides in Boston, Massachusetts, with his wife, daughter and dog.
