We stand in solidarity with Ukrainian People

An Update to Our Global Community

Bookmark IconThis page will continue to be updated. Please check back with us for latest ways PMI is taking action and our global community can support those impacted during this time of need and crisis.

We at the Project Management Institute continue to be deeply disheartened by the senseless acts of violence and destruction stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with Ukrainian people. We support Eastern European members and volunteers during this time of crisis.

As a for-purpose, mission-driven professional association, we are focused on making the world a better place through project management. We value our diverse and inclusive community, the passion and commitment our members and volunteers have for supporting one another in times of difficulty, and the willingness to leverage their expertise and experience to help in tangible and meaningful ways. Now more than ever, we must embrace our ethical values of honesty, responsibility, respect and fairness and unite as a membership association.

Operational Updates

PMI has joined the many organizations that came together quickly to support those impacted.  We’ve created this page to provide up to date information on how we are responding, and ways our community has mobilized and assisted our Ukraine and Eastern Europe chapters.

  • PMI has paused all activities in Russia, Belarus and the Russian-annexed regions of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk in response to evolving global sanctions, and the untenable environment in the region at this time. This includes all PMI exam delivery, membership renewals, B2B, Authorized Training Partners (ATP), and chapter activities.
  • We have entered into a partnership with Ukraine Global Scholars, a non-profit organization that helps students from Ukraine get accepted at the world's best boarding schools and colleges on full scholarships.  In exchange, students commit to returning to Ukraine for five years to rebuild the country.
  • We are working with World Forum of United Nations Associations and Agence Universitaire Europe, and others, to support their efforts through funding and volunteer hours to care for and help refugees.
  • We have provided hardship relief for Ukrainian members and certification holders by extending exam eligibility, certification renewal, and membership periods.
  • We have provided funding to our local Chapters in Europe to aid them in their humanitarian relief efforts to support Ukraine.
  • We have activated a partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) Europe that is connecting our European chapters with JA local representatives to support on the ground relief efforts in both the short and long-term.
  • We have stood up a special forum in the Chapter Collaboration Platform (CCP) for all global Chapter Leaders to connect, support one another, and collaborate on ways in which they can help.
  • We continue to encourage our global community to volunteer their time to support worldwide humanitarian organizations to support relief efforts through our Hours for Impact initiative.

PMI Chapters in Action

PMI chapters have been meeting and planning relief activities that will continue to help Ukrainian refugees and make long lasting impacts. Here are some examples of the great work they have mobilized so far. More activities are being planned so check back for updates and join us in making donations.

Donate to Doctors Without Borders

Support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international medical humanitarian organization that provides emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict and other disasters.

Doctors Without Borders/MSF has been supporting Ukrainian hospitals that are receiving trauma patients wounded in the fighting by providing emergency medical supplies including surgical kits, trauma kits, and basic necessities for intensive care units, emergency rooms, and surgical operating theaters.

On March 6, an MSF shipment containing 1,400 cubic feet of emergency medical supplies was delivered to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health in Kyiv. These supplies are now being sent on to hospitals in the city and other towns further east where they are urgently needed.

Ukraine Global Scholars (UGS), a 501(c)(3) public charity that helps bright Ukrainian students from modest backgrounds get accepted at the world's best boarding schools and colleges on full scholarships, is asking for your financial support.
