Dear PMI Global Community,

As we approach the end of the year, I hope that you will be able to relax and recharge over the holiday season with your friends and families.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for all your contributions to PMI's multiple achievements and the growth of our community in 2023. This year has been a year of impressive growth and success for PMI. We broke all records in the number of members, new PMP certifications, satisfaction measures, attendees at our events, and the number of people we reached. We also launched the PMI x AI initiative to drive innovation in the project management profession and broadened our reach by acquiring PMOGA.

The past 12 months – my first full calendar year as CEO – have given me countless opportunities to meet many of you and learn firsthand about your passion for lifelong learning, volunteering, and creating social impact, your dedication to the advancement of the project management profession and raising the bar for successful projects. I have witnessed your excitement during PMI internal meetings, LIM events organized around the globe, chapter meetings, and other gatherings, as well as during the Global Summit 2023, which left its mark as the largest in-person event that PMI has ever hosted with over 3,700 attendees.

In 2023, we continued our cultural journey by promoting PMI's five core values: Make It Easy, Aim Higher, Be Welcoming, Embrace Curiosity, and Together We Can.

We also continued our transformation:

  • The number of PMI members reached a new record and now exceeds 700,000 members!
  • We finalized the acquisition of PMOGA and welcomed the PMOGA community to support career-long learning for project professionals – from entry-level project managers to senior-level PMO leaders.
  • We launched the PMI x AI initiative to empower project professionals to drive digital transformations and excel in the AI-driven era. PMI x AI content is co-created with our community experts, and we will continue this direction also in 2024. Whatever we released in 2023 was just a start. We are ready for the full launch of the GenAI-powered PMI Infinity Project Manager co-pilot in February 2024. We have new insights to share via our thought leadership reports, and the global learning team is just about to release the second course on AI in project management.
  • India Single Membership became a reality, as we launched it at the end of this year together with our local chapters. This breakthrough means that PMI membership now includes chapter membership for all India members, and the benefits of both. We will share with our community globally what we will learn with this experiment.
  • We continued our efforts to make PMI membership and products more accessible via our fair pricing initiative (called “PayLocal”) that was implemented early in 2023. PayLocal makes it easy to use local payment methods and currencies, but also offers a tailored pricing model adjusted to local income levels.
  • We strengthened our connection with corporate partners and grew the Global Executive Council, all to better position PMI to advocate for the project management profession. We also launched our first Africa Executive Council in September in Nairobi, Kenya, and hopefully, we can grow it next year and start doing the same in other emerging regions.
  • We delivered a full calendar of networking and learning opportunities, including our hugely successful Global Summit in Atlanta, which more than 3,700 people attended.
  • And finally, we expanded our impact. I encourage you to check out our Hours for Impact site to read about some of the amazing work our community has done or to pledge some volunteer time of your own.

But our work continues after all these accomplishments – we always aim higher.

When I shared my year-end message in 2022, I had been in this role for only three short months. I was still trying to get up to speed on everything PMI. I've learned a lot about you since then – and I still have more work to do on that front. But one thing I know for sure is that PMI is special. The close collaboration of PMI teams and the community makes us unique and best positioned to accelerate the PMI Flywheel forward towards significant impact beyond the project management profession.

Early in 2024, we'll begin rolling out PMI's new strategy to continue our transformation and build on the momentum from this year. Our strategy will clarify our purpose, reinforce our values, and outline a roadmap to maintain and expand PMI's position as the world's leading authority for project professionals. We'll focus on building awareness and growing PMI, further establishing our gold standard professional certifications, and building upon our suite of thought leadership, credentials, technology platforms, events, and opportunities to ensure we are supporting project professionals throughout their entire careers.

2023 has been a fantastic year, but we are already impatient to see what 2024 has in store and what all we can achieve together.

Here’s wishing you all the very best for a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year.
