A methodology for selecting one out of several alternatives described by a set of attributes is presented. The methodology avoids, at least initially, the issue of determining weights and scoring rules, eliminating the possibility of being forced to make a suboptimal selection. Instead, it focuses on the few attributes that differentiate among the alternatives, and allows the decision-maker to select the preferred alternative by eliminating alternatives that have no realistic chance of being selected. The presentation of the methodology is illustrated with data from the real-life case that prompted its development.
