A project manager's success or failure often begins when they are selected to manage a project: It is the quality of the match between an individual's skills and a particular project's requirements that often determines a project's outcome. This article examines the two characteristics of project leadership (adhocracy, rationality) and the five characteristics of effective project leaders: credibility, creative problem-solver, tolerance for ambiguity, flexible management style, and effective communications skills.
