PMIEF Leadership & Governance
The PMI Educational Foundation is led by a nine member Board of Directors—five of whom are appointed by the PMI Board of Directors, four of whom are elected by the Foundation’s Board.
2026 Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is composed of project management practitioners and public interest representatives, plus academic and industry professionals. A board member's term is three years. The Board of Directors meets a minimum of twice a year and a maximum of four times a year to:
- Govern the Educational Foundation
- Determine the strategic direction of PMIEF
- Monitor the Educational Foundation's performance
- Award financial grants
The PMIEF Board of Directors is committed to a governance structure based on predetermined and agreed upon values and vision for the future, the prioritization of programs to ensure the maximum benefit, and leadership in strategic matters.

Expand AllPMIEF Board Election Processes
Individuals join the PMIEF Board of Directors through one of two nomination and selection pathways:
Committee for the Selection of Elected Directors Path
The primary election process is managed by PMIEF's Committee for the Selection of Elected Directors (CSED). The call for nominations for the 2026 cycle will be announced in January 2026 through PMI’s Volunteer Engagement Platform (VEP), with nominations open through February 2026. This process is open to individuals who meet the qualifications and are interested in serving as elected members of the PMIEF Board. CSED reviews all applications and advances candidates for appointment based on alignment with board needs and strategic priorities.
Board Volunteer Advisory Committee Path
A secondary pathway is available through PMI’s Board Volunteer Advisory Committee (BVAC). This process is separate from CSED and fulfills the PMI Board-appointed seats on the PMIEF Board with the recommendations of qualified individuals based on skills, experience, and alignment with PMIEF’s broader governance needs. Nominations for BVAC consideration typically open in June/July, following the conclusion of the annual PMIEF election cycle, and are also managed through VEP.
All newly appointed board members begin their terms in January 2027. Board terms are typically for a duration of three years.
