PMI Board of Directors

Dear PMI Community,
Every first Thursday of November, we celebrate the people and the profession that turn ideas into reality. For me, this celebration has a very special meaning. I still remember those early years, around 2004, when only a few of us gathered to recognize the importance of project management in transforming ideas into results. What started as a small recognition among professionals has grown into a worldwide celebration that unites our community across cultures and industries.
Throughout my journey as a project professional, educator, and entrepreneur, I’ve learned that the real measure of a project’s success begins when it starts creating value. Delivering on time, within scope and budget, is an achievement, but true success is about the lasting outcomes and positive change our work generates for people and organizations.
That’s why I deeply connect with PMI’s belief that project success is not defined solely by traditional metrics. It’s about the value and outcomes we create — the difference our projects make in the world. This belief is at the heart of PMI’s purpose: to maximize project success to elevate our world.
As we approach International Project Management Day on 6 November, PMI invites all professionals to reflect and take action through our M.O.R.E. call to action:
- Manage perceptions – because how others experience our work defines its reach and influence.
- Own project success – take accountability for both results and the value created.
- Relentlessly reassess – keep learning and adapting in a world that never stops changing.
- Expand your perspective – look beyond deliverables to influence strategy, culture, and transformation.
International Project Management Day reminds us that project management is a powerful force for good — enabling progress, building communities, and improving lives through the projects we lead. Let us all celebrate on Thursday, 6 November, International Project Management Day.
I also hope you’ll join me and other Board directors, as well as thousands of professionals worldwide, at the PMI® Global Summit 2025, taking place 12–15 November in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s our profession’s premier gathering — a space where ideas spark, connections grow, and the future of project management takes shape.
For those unable to join in person, don’t miss the PMI Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, 13 November, 5:00–5:45 p.m. MT — which will be available both at Global Summit and via livestream on the PMI YouTube Channel.
Finally, if you have insights or questions for future Board Perspectives columns, please share them through our online feedback form. Your ideas help strengthen our global community.
On behalf of the PMI Board of Directors, I wish every one of you a Happy International Project Management Day – and thank you for being part of this global movement that turns ideas into impact, one project at a time.
With appreciation,
Pablo Lledó, MSc, MBA, PMP, PMI-ACP, CDir
