Academic Scholarships

PMI invests in our rising leaders by funding scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study in project management or project management-related field of study. Please note there is only one application for all the scholarships below. The new Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) Scholarshipshave a separate application. All application materials must be in English.

The application for the academic scholarships listed below is now closed and will reopen in 2024.

Dr Harold Kerzner Scholarships

These scholarships are named in honor of Harold Kerzner, PhD, MS (Engineering), MBA, and sponsored by International Institute for Learning (IIL). Dr. Harold Kerzner is a globally recognized expert on project, program, and portfolio management, innovation and strategic planning, and Senior Executive Director at International Institute for Learning. For 50 years, Dr. Kerzner has shared vital guidance for making project management a strategic tool for competitive advaPMIEF Board Designated Professional Development Scholarship.  Dr. Kerzner is the author of best-selling books about project management, including Innovation Project Management: Methods, Case Studies, and Tools for Managing Innovation Projects (2019), The Future of Project Management (2018), and Project Management Best Practices, Fourth Edition (2018). 

The scholarships are open to all students who are pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees in Project Management or related fields of study from degree-granting colleges and universities. Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral students are eligible to apply. Multiple scholarships will be awarded in the amount of US$7,500 each. 

 

GAC Scholarships

The Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) is an independent academic accreditation body with policies, procedures and standards for project, program and portfolio management and related programs at the bachelor’s, post graduate and doctoral degree levels. The purpose of the GAC scholarship is to support students who are studying project management, with the objective of using project/program/portfolio management to meet the current and anticipated needs of an organization, thereby increasing awareness of project management and strengthening an organization’s success.

GAC scholarships are open to all students enrolled in GAC-accredited, academic, degree granting programs, in project/program/portfolio management or a project management related field of study. Multiple scholarships will be awarded in the amount of US$3,000 each.

 

Gaylord E. (Gary) Christle Scholarship

Mr. Gaylord E. (Gary) Christle was instrumental in the founding of the Performance Management Association (PMA) and encouraging it to expand its focus to make "earned value" management principles a cornerstone of project management. In this regard, he was the instigator of PMA’s eventual affiliation with the Project Management Institute as the PMI College of Performance Management. He also transformed the annual Cost/Schedule Control Systems Conference from a small, commercially sponsored event, to a robust, international event sponsored by practitioner associations (PMI/CPM, NDIA and SCEA) and focused on Integrated Program Management. The scholarship is open to any student enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree program in project management or a project management related field.

 

Matthew H. Parry Memorial Scholarship 

In October 2009, the PMI Board of Directors donated US$50,000 to PMIEF to establish the Matthew H. Parry Memorial Scholarship to honor the numerous contributions made by Mr. Parry to PMI and the project management profession. The scholarship is open to any student (graduate or undergraduate) enrolled in a degree granting program of higher education and demonstrates an interest in project management as a potential career. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of US$2,000.

 

PMI Eric Norman Fellows Scholarship 

In honor of the distinguished service career of the Fellows of the Project Management Institute, the PMI Board of Directors has established the Memorial Fellows Scholarship named in honor of PMI Fellow(s) who have recently passed. This year we are honoring Eric Norman. The scholarship is open to any student enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in project management or a project management related field of study. The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of US$2,000. 

 

PMI Founders Scholarship 

In honor of the distinguished service career of the founders of the Project Management Institute, the PMI Board of Directors has established the PMI Founders Scholarship named in honor of the founders of PMI who have recently passed.  This year's scholarship is named after Susan C. Gallagher. The scholarship is open to any student enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in project management or a project management related field. The scholarship will be awarded in an amount up to US$2,000.

 

Ray Piper Global Project Management Education Scholarship

Ray Piper was an acknowledged expert in project management, a caring colleague, and an enthusiastic mentor for those who wished to learn. Ray passed away suddenly in the United Kingdom in October 2008. One of Ray’s greatest passions was training and education so that he could help young people become more empowered with knowledge and better shielded by lessons learned. Ray was outstanding in his teaching skills and in his generosity with information for his many students and protégés.  The scholarship is open to any student enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in project management or a project management related field.

NEW: 2023 Eric Norman Professional Development Scholarship

In honor of the distinguished service career to the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation, the PMIEF Board of Directors has established Board Designated Professional Development Scholarship named in honor of PMIEF Board Member(s) who have recently passed. This year we are honoring Eric S. Norman.  This scholarship is Project management professionals, nonprofit/NGO staff, teachers and school administrators.  Individuals are able to select a single standalone course of their own preference for a cash reimbursement of up to US$5,000 including a Project Management Certification Prep Course, PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) Single Stand Alone Course or Colleges or University Extension Single Stand Alone Course related to project management. Applicants must provide proof of registration once awarded the scholarship. Scholarship applications will reopen March 2024.

PMI currently has four ERGs (Black Professionals, LGBTQIA+, Neurodivergent and Disability, and Women’s), and will award four US$5,000 scholarships to individuals attending accredited schools within the Global Accreditation Center.
