Our research has shown that having actively engaged executive sponsors is the top driver of project success, yet fewer than two-thirds of projects and programs actually have assigned executive sponsors.

This in-depth study finds there are three primary factors limiting or inhibiting sponsors’ ability to be effective:

  • An organizational culture that leads sponsors to be overextended
  • Inefficient communication, and
  • Lack of professional development of sponsors

This focus on project sponsors is critical, as 76 percent of our study respondents agree that the role of the executive sponsor has grown in importance over the past five years.

Explore these findings in greater detail to understand how executive sponsors can positively impact project and program outcomes, ultimately providing organizations with a competitive edge.
